U. S. Route 66 is the highway that wouldn't die. The last stretch of Route 66 was decommissioned by the Federal government in 1985, and the historic road was officially replaced by Interstate 40.

Betty Boop was first created as a dog character by Grim Natwick and appeared as the girl friend of another dog named Bimbo. Betty's figure was modeled after Mae West's and her singing style taken from Helen Kane the "Boop-Boop-a-Doop" girl.
 
Felix the Cat had a very humble beginning as a curious and mischievous little cat as first conceived by New Jersey cartoonist Otto Messmer. In no time at all he was more popular than movie stars and world leaders of the same era.

In 1955 Art Clokey,a teacher who had done Dinah Shore animation and a jazz video in clay called Gumbasia was approached by Art Engel of 20th Century Fox to do a clay series. It turned up on Howdy Doody (1947-60).This, of course,was Gumby.
